Over autumn Remi proved himself “a choreographer of great sensitivity and promise” (Fjord Review) with the German, Italian and North American premieres of his pas de deux Penumbra. Ballet stars Lucia Lacarra and Marlon Dino danced the much-loved work (choreographed to Rachmaninov) for Dortmund Ballet, while Anna Ol and Young Gyu Choi toured it to arenas across Italy with Roberto Bolle and Friends. Anna also performed the piece – with Remi – as part of the Canadian All Star Gala in Toronto. More performances are scheduled for 2017 and 2018.

Remi and partner Qian Liu were “full of youthful bravado” (Volkskrant) as Lenski and Olga in last night’s premiere of Onegin. Remi – the “big name at the moment” in ballet (Telegraaf) – made his debut in the role, which is choreographed by John Cranko and coveted by male dancers around the world.
A Christmas Coppelia
Remi and Michaela de Prince once again front Dutch National Ballet for this year’s Christmas season of Coppelia. The family-friendly production features whimsical designs by the late Dutch children’s illustrator Sieb Posthuma. Remi and Michaela perform the lead roles of Frans and Swaantje on 22, 28 and 31 December.
New dance blossoms
Remi’s new musical Morning Blossoms had its world premiere last night and will tour nationally throughout October and November. His high-energy choreography is matched by a daring new score by Chloé Charody and a book and lyrics by ODD Continent artistic director Malcolm Rock. See it now before the rest of the world!
Sonata in shadow
Tonight principal dancers Anna Ol and Arthur Shesterikov will perform the world premiere of Remi’s new ballet commissioned for Dutch National Ballet. Penumbra – which refers to the shadows of shadows – is choreographed to Rachmaninov’s Cello Sonata.
New dance rising
Today saw the premiere of Remi’s latest self-choreographed work for Dutch National Ballet, The Phoenix, an experiment with onstage musician Sonja Schebeck whose violin evoked the flames that consumed Joseph Massarelli’s newly risen chimera. A fiery finish for season 2015-16!
Pond-hopping
Remi and Anna Tsygankova will lead the European premiere of Year of the Rabbit by New York City Ballet wunderkind Justin Peck. Remi and Anna dance the principal couple in this popular ballet that is the centrepiece of Dutch National Ballet’s Transatlantic mixed bill.
Twin win
Remi has brought home another Russian trophy after being named Mr Expressivity at last night’s Dance Open in St Petersburg. His crowd-pleasing performance of Hans van Manen’s Five Tangos follows his People’s Choice Award win at the same prestigious gala in 2013.
Full of magic and brilliance
Critics have called Remi’s performance of George Balanchine’s Tarantella “a palpable hit to the heart” and “a whirlwind”. His debut of the popular pas de deux for Dutch National Ballet (a first for the company) was praised for its technical mastery, virtuosity and playfulness: “a performance full of magic and brilliance” (Trouw, 29 March).
Back to Balanchine
A year on from his “show-stealing” performance of Jewels, Remi returns to the repertoire of Balanchine on 25 March, performing the indefatigable Tarantella pas de deux with Maia Makhateli. Best of Balanchine runs until 10 April.
